| Rank | Points Needed |
|---|---|
| Genius (about 70%) | 99 |
| Queen Bee (100%) | 141 |
Genius is commonly cited at about 70% of the day's maximum points, so the exact cutoff can differ by a point depending on rounding. Queen Bee requires every accepted word.
Start from the center letter and pair it with each outer letter. Try common endings such as -ing, -ed and -er on words you've found, and remember that letters can repeat. Don't skip four-letter words, since they often lead to longer ones. For a worked example, see our spelling bee solver guide.

Hints generated for the October 31, 2026 puzzle.
Spelling Bee hints are clues that help you find words in a Spelling Bee puzzle without revealing every answer. They can show possible word lengths, starting letters, common word patterns, or clues for difficult words while keeping the puzzle challenging.
Almost never. Puzzles are generally built without the letter S. The one documented exception was the 2,500th puzzle, on March 12, 2025.
A new Spelling Bee puzzle is released each day at 3:00 a.m. Eastern Time. The daily puzzle resets every 24 hours with a new set of seven letters.
In Spelling Bee, a Bingo means the puzzle's accepted word list contains at least one word beginning with each of the seven letters in the hive. It is different from a pangram: a pangram is a single word that uses all seven letters, while Bingo describes the starting letters represented across the puzzle's word list.
You don't need a pangram to reach Genius, because rank depends on total points. Queen Bee is different: it requires every accepted word, and pangrams are accepted words, so you can't reach it without finding them all. A pangram's 7-point bonus also makes it one of the quickest ways to gain points.
Yes. A Spelling Bee puzzle can contain multiple pangrams. Each pangram uses all seven hive letters at least once, but the words themselves can be completely different. Finding one pangram does not necessarily mean you have found every pangram in the puzzle.
A pangram uses all seven hive letters at least once and may repeat letters. A perfect pangram uses each of the seven letters exactly once, making it exactly seven letters long. Perfect pangrams are a special and much less common type of pangram.
Spelling Bee does not accept every word found in a general dictionary. It uses a curated list of accepted answers, so a word can be legitimate in another dictionary and still be excluded from the puzzle. First check the spelling, make sure the word contains the center letter, and confirm that it uses only the seven letters in the hive. If it is still rejected, it may simply not be part of the puzzle's accepted word list.
No. The physical position of the six outer letters does not change which words can be made. What matters is the seven letters in the hive and the required center letter. Every accepted word must use only those letters and include the center letter, and letters can be repeated within a word.
The availability of previous puzzles depends on the New York Times Games archive and your account access. The daily puzzle changes each day, so players who want to practice with fresh letter sets can try Spelling Bee Unlimited on this site. For an older puzzle, use its exact seven letters because the accepted words and pangrams are specific to that letter set.
